| Dannel is 18 and is a scholar in her third year of college studying pre-med. | |
| Daniel Unno is 17 and is a scholar in his second year of college also studying pre-med. | |
| Precious is 15 in her second year of high school | |
| Daniel Arno is 12 in his first year of high school | |
| Nanay, "mother" in Filipino, is not the biological "mother" of either Dan or Nelly. However, she was Dan's nanny when he was a small boy. When Dan moved back to Sta. Maria to settle and begin raising his family he located Nanay and hired her to be the nanny for his children as she had been for him and his sisters. |
We met Pastor Dan and his family on December 21st, 2005. I had been invited to speak at a combination Thanksgiving / Christmas celebration in Malita, Davao del Sur. Pastor Dan was at that celebration.

During lunch he asked me what our plans were for the rest of the day. I responded that I generally attempted to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in my life, and that at the time the only leading I sensed was to return to Davao City later that afternoon. He suggested that I consider the possibility that the Holy Spirit might be leading me to stop by his church in Sta. Maria on our way back to Davao City. His daughter, Dannel, had come home for the holidays from her pre-med studies in college and had organized a 3-day youth camp at their church. Dan asked me to stop by and teach the young people that evening. By God's magnificent grace that marked the beginning of what has been an absolutely amazing year in each of our ministries and lives. Pastor Dan, his family, his church and many, many of his friends in service to the Lord have been exposed to the teaching of sound doctrine through our friendship and our ministries.
In August of this year the Doctors removed a malignant 13 cm tumor from Dan's liver and they also removed his gallbladder. They had learned that the cancerous cells had already begun to spread. Following the six hours of surgery in an attempt to remove as much of the affected area as possible, the Doctors were not very hopeful of Dan's recovery. God surprised everyone by allowing Dan to continue living, so before too long he was ready to be released from the hospital. Their home in Sta. Maria is about one and one half hours' drive south of Davao City, so when the time came that Dan could be released from the hospital his Doctor suggested that he try to find a place to stay in Davao City while he was recovering over the next several months just in case he needed to return to the hospital suddenly. We offered our guest room to him and his family. They have been staying with us since his release from the hospital in August. The doctors that have been involved in Dan's case are totally amazed that he is still alive.
Dan is in total agreement with Paul when he wrote; "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Therefore, he and his family have left each of Dan's tomorrows in the Lord's hands. He opted out of the suggested chemotherapy, and chose to investigate some of the natural, herbal medications that are available over here. Dan's health and physical condition improved dramatically throughout September, October and through most of November. All of the tests he took at the hospital indicated that he was improving. His appetite was excellent. He was able to walk for extended periods for exercise. He got in better physical condition than he had been for several years. The majority of the pain he was experiencing while in the healing process had subsided.
Near the middle of November Dan's abdominal area began to grow larger, and he began to experience an increase in pain. He went to see his doctor who conducted an ultra-sound examination. They discovered that a mass was evident in his abdominal area. Dan was admitted to the hospital on November 24th with a scheduled C-T Scan the following Monday. They discovered that cancer had now spread to his spleen, his lungs, his stomach and his liver. On Tuesday, November 28th Dan opted to return to our house to await his homegoing and final promotion into the presence of our Lord.
On December 14th Dan's breathing became very difficult. We contacted a local provider of oxygen for home use and had them deliver a bottle to the house. Within only a few hours Dan requested that we take him to the hospital. He was transferred to the ICU in Davao Doctor's hospital around midnight Thursday and at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, December 16th they pronounced his physical death. He had passed from consciousness in time to consciousness in eternity.

Dan came to study with us in January 2006
| In February we went searching out a venue at which we could hold the Mindanao Vision Family Camp for 2006. Several of us from the class went to check out this beach area near Sta. Maria and opted to spend the night. While we were there Dan and Nelly blessed us by bringing meals for us. |
| Dan invited us out to visit another beach near Sta. Maria, Mariscal Beach Park, also know as "Little Boracay." Following the tour of the facility the determination was made to hold the Mindanao Vision Family Camp 2006 at this location. |
| Registration for the camp began at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, so that morning we all went to worship with Pastor Dan at his church in Sta. Maria. The camp continued until Friday afternoon. |
| Not long after Dan arrived at our house in August he began to enjoy having his meals outside in the sun. His being at our house afforded him the opportunity to sit in on the Sound Doctrinal Studies Foundations class going on at that time, and to join in with our Tuesday night home bible studies. |
| As Dan's health improved during September and October he would return to his church in Sta. Maria to resume his pastoral duties on weekends. Nita and I took an American friend and his fiancé to "Little Boracay" one weekend and Dan asked our friend to speak in his church. Many of Dan's members do not understand English well, so Dan was interpreting as our friend spoke. |
| Some of our Gallo family friends from Las Vegas visited in early November so all of us loaded up and took a boat ride to Samal Island for a day picnic at the beach. Dan, Nelly, Arno and Precious came along. |
Dan's most recent visit to the hospital as he awaits the C-T Scan.
| On December 24th, 2006 hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds of Dan's family and friends gathered for an eight hour celebration as we worshipped God, comforted each other, remembered the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, remembered Dan and committed to the grave the earthly vessel God had used for 49 years to house "His Daniel." |
Thank you for taking the time to visit this website and meet Pastor Dan Hiquiana and his family. Thank you, too, for all your prayers for Dan and his family. Sa Dios ang himaya!
